Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
You guys are full of great info ive got alot to consider lol, would i have any problems running gta4 etc with an i3 or would an i5 be more suited, just im right if i were to buy an i3 will the cooler that comes with it be compatible with such small motherboards and fit in the sg05?
i think id rather stay with intel than go back to amd to be honest,do any of these reccomended sites do pre built systems like what were talking about now,im assuming itle be them little tiny screws for the motherboard i used to hate them in the atx days.
what would your system rate in say 3d mark 06 cat-the-fifth just for rough guidance sake?
cheers guys.

Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
I use the stock cooler and it fits the H67 mini ITX motherboard fine.
My Core i3 2100 with an overclocked HD5670 running at 900MHZ for the core gives a 3DMark2011 score of 1808:
http://forums.hexus.net/2068106-post190.html
The overclocked HD5670 should be around the same speed as an 8800GT/9800GT IMHO.
I can download 3DMark06 if this is any help.
Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
i know nothing of 3d mark2011 i probably couldnt even run it on my rig ive always used 2001se and 2006 for what i wanted to do but i would be curious to see what 06 would score if youd do me the good grace of downloding thanks.
never mind i found it.

Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
Wel the e6600 is faster than the e6300 and there's a good bit of overclocking head room on bother that cpu and the x48 chipset, in terory you could push it around 4ghz, in reality probably lower, it'll be down to the VRM and cooling on that shuttle board.
But in general the i3 will be faster, that asus motherboard will give you USB3, if your willing to spend a bit more on an H67 board http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/p...n-usb3-b3.html then you'll also get Sata 6Gbit/s (good if later you want to add an SSD) and an E-SATA port (but only a 3Gbit/s one)
Novatech do do pre assembled motherboard bundles and bare bone systems but not in mini-ITX
If you wanted you could contact them I'm sure they'd do a pre assembled system, they'd charge for it.
The screws aren't that small, they are all standard, two sizes m3 (for optical drives and other 3.5" and 5.25" external devices) and everything else is is a slightly larger imperial 6-32 screw, case, motherboard hard drives.
What you could do is get a pack of thumb screws and use them to make screwing stuff together easier http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00009XSY...009XSYI2854561
I've got a bag of those star tech thumbscrews, they are far from the biggest thumb screws but they are decent and black ;)
If you want to keep costs down then you are going to have to shop around and get bit's from different venders.
Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
Here is the 3DMark06 score for my system:
http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15709878
It looks like the CPU was probably not taxed very high if the clockspeed reading is to be believed. The CPU should be running at 3.1GHZ and not 1.6GHZ!
The HD5670 is running at stock clockspeeds. However,remember that 3DMark06 is a DX9 benchmark. 3DMark2011 is a DX11 benchmark.
Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
cheers for the replys fellas, ive got to be honest though ive thought about this ever since lastnite and im still sold on the shuttle setup im not that bothered about usb 3 and ssd i just want something that will be good for gaming and browsing etc and it seems to fit the bill pretty well.
im going to wait till the i7 processors come down abit and buy something like that then when theyre good value, thanks for taking the time to benchmark your system for me i appreciate it.

Remember that an H61 or H67 motherboard can accept Sandy Bridge Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The socket 1366 Core i7 processors are slower for gaming than a socket 1155 Sandy Bridge Core i7.
Socket 775 is an EOL platform. It was replaced at the higher end by socket 1156 which is now also EOL.
Re: Is this ok for a cheap gaming rig?
how much did your sytem cost to build with the i3 and the rest of your components if you dont mind me asking im just curious?

The motherboard,RAM and CPU cost me around £200 and I got the HD5670 GDDR5 secondhand for around £35. I already had an HX520W and a spare 250GB hard disk.
Also, there maybe the possibility that Ivy Bridge will work with the socket 1155 motherboards.
