    P5N-e Sli - HD6870 wont post

    Hi,

Have an Asus P5N-e Sli motherboard, and just bought a HD6870 to go in it. However, it wont post.

It works fine in another PC. After some searching turns out my motherboard isn't compatable due to a bios fault. Upgraded to the latest bios, 1406, which was supposedly going to fix the problem. However it doesn't.

    Any ideas ?

I'm thinking the easiest way, bar from fixing the fault somehow, would be to just buy a new motherboard.

    Thoughts ?

Couldn't be bothered to waste any more time on it, so bought a new board and RAM that should be compatible with the AMD card. Will recycle the old board in a new build at some point, as it works fine with nVidia cards. Pfft. On the bright side, have had that board and 3GB DDR2 for gone 4 years. So having 8GB of DDR3 will be a nice change.

I had exactly the same issue (and a thread somewhere!). I was also unsuccessful in getting it to work so in the end just bought a 2nd hand 775 mb based on a different chipset.

Kind of annoying. Was a decent, and rather pricey, board when I bought it. Oh well, don't think I'll be using Asus again. Gone for a gigabyte board this time which has a compatible intel chipset.
