Right I've had enough of the enormous racket that my dads crappy 550W QTec power supply is making so it is time for a replacement. As it is only running on hard drive and two opticals probably only 350-400W is needed, but noise is an issue, as it price! He only wants to spend about £30-40 (inc. delivery). Any ideas?

ThermalTake are also VERY quiet (i never know when they bloody thing is on !), but maybe a few more quid than the one's Kez has linked to.

the WinPower 550wt PSu is £30 and totally silent, you seriously cannot tell its on cept by looking at the 120mm fan in it

Id say avaoid the winpower ones - £30 for 500watts sounds very wrong.
Thumbs up for the scan mederion (CWT), Fortron, TT (MD have these for decent prices), and the antec in my sig

winpower seem to be better than Q-tec, but still come under the "generic" brand for me. Dont cut corners on your PSU, get a well known, solid model from a known brand name
Amen to that - EVERYTHING connects to the PSU, and the PSU provides (relative to everything else in the system) high current and voltages.
