Talking HELP what to do w/ Xeon 2.8ghz ES

I recently came into a Xeon 2.8ghz "ES" (Engineering Sample). I figured this would be an excellent canadite for OC'ing (though it hasn't been OC at all ever) since the "ES" chips have NONE of the std multilpier locks etc. that are in place in all other modern Intel chips (since P2 if memory serves me correctly). SO I could easily OC BOTH FSB and Multiplier if I choose to. My only problem is that I have SEVERAL other projects in the works and getting the funds to finish them is hard enough. So I've decided I MIGHT be better off just selling the chip to someone who could put it to good use, the only problem is I really haven't dealt with many Intel chips lately (last Intel based machine I had was a Celeron 600@927mhz...I figure since the chip is an ES and doesn't have a multiplier lock it should be worth a bit more than a std. chip (similar situation to an unlocked Barton...) I just don't know how much I should expect...depending on how much I can get for it I might just be better off selling one of my other project cpu's (one is an early unlocked Barton 2500+, and a modded Duron 1.8ghz w/ FULL 256k cache enabled (basically making it a Tbred) and no multiplier lock runs easily at 2800+ speed w/ no problem...) ANYWAYS ANY help/input would be greatly appreciated.

BTW all the reviews I've seen generally show the Xeon run in MP config (usually 2 xeon chips)...while I know it is SMP capable, it can be run as a single chip...does anyone know where there's a review of such a setup???THNX

I thought ES chips were still the property of Intel and not the individual as they were never retail chips, just ones sent out for reviews etc ?

Prolly got the wrong end of the stick though as I am more than willing to raise me hand and admit to knowing next to bugger all abot Intel chips

Other than use it, there isnt a lot (legaly) you can do with it.
Your not permitted to sell it by Intel (well, the orignal owner shouldnt have anyway, if your not the orignal owner, i dont know how you'd stand as you havnt signed any agreement.)

Dunno- there wouldn't be much point really, clock for clock it'd be exactly the same as an equivalent P4, unless it's one of the 1mb L3 cache models.

Also, even retail Xeons are multiplier unlocked in the downwards direction, and that's usually the way people adjust them, since they come with a 100 or 133MHz FSB as standard. You can wind them up to 166MHz FSB or more in a suitable MB, but you sometimes have to put the multi down a notch to get there.

Basically, even if you can sell it, I doubt it's worth much more than a retail Xeon unless you find someone with a specific reason for wanting to up the multi. Still, even a retail 2.8GHz Xeon must be worth a bit.

I've seen one of two being sold on ebay, and they do fetch a bit more than normal retail CPUs.....having said that, P4s have gone to 800fsb now, so the novelty of whacking the 533fsb to 800fsb isn't so fetching anymore....
