placing two lo noise fans on top of each other?

is it worth placing one fan on top of the other to obtain hi airflow with low noise? does anyone know about this, does it double the cfm? i may try mounting this system on a sk-7 cpu heatsink

    It makes it worse.

For the best result you want to get rid of the blind spot that a fan has, you can do this by placing 2 fans on a HS next to each other.

I did this on my TaiSol 760 and the temps dropped by around 7c with 2 silent 60mm fans on

    I'll post a pic later.

As TM says, it will make it worse as it causes air turbulence which interferes with flow speed

Yep, this is called 'Fan-stall' iirc, effect is worse than 1 Fan stand-alone

Papst and Panaflo make high airflow-lownoise Fans m8, or sod the noise and stick a Delta 'Screamer' on there, lol

is ystech ok? i ordered some lo noise ones but someone sais they are exaggeratedly rated... more noisy than panaflo models?

i think what i'll try with the sk-7 is having one right on top and one beside it at a slant so that the air goes across the fan from one side...
maybe i can try some smoke from a jostick to model the airflow

ystech will be noiser than the panaflo's cause the panaflo's use vapour bearings not ball like the ystechs so at low speeds youll get a noticeable whirr whereas the panaflos are more of a "shhhh" of air.

this doesnt acctualy make it worse, just more noisy, but it does give better cooling.

one 80mm fan would defiantly be better than 2 though, i recommend tt smartfan2 cos it has usefull adjuster thingy and is quiet

I have tired it before and for me it did give a massive performance drop.

You want something like this, it's a TaiSol760 with 2 silent 60mm YS-Techs on it and it keeps my XP1800+ @ 2Ghz nice a cool

hehe, it's a download box and it is very stable indeed over a 50 day uptime record.

As for the dust, it gets cleaned every 3 months or so.

What are you trying to cool/achieve with the setup?

Are you just trying to get a silent cooler for your CPU?

You're not going to double the airflow, but you will see some slight improvements... But I can tell you now, it's not going to worth the noise. The origin of the noise is from the fins of the heatsink. When you've two fans staggered on top of each other, the second fan (the one in contact with the heatsink) will be spinning faster than the first. In effect, air is actually rushing through the blades of the second fan - not the blades drive the air through! That will generate additional turbulance which will hit the top of the heatsink and you'd ended up creating more noise...

The plan is to have maximum performance with minimum noise with an sk7 and 2 27 cfm fans, and i thought it would be cool to try some combination tactics...
i was wondering about turbulance, and it is true that it would be very turbulent with 2 fans on top of each other... i'm sure there is a way of getting an efficient double airflow with some kind of double combo... that taisol seems very good, i hope something similair will perform with a sk7 and fans like this:
