Q-tek H-sink killed my duron this time £120 of kit it killed

some people may remember that the faulty clip on a q tec overclocking heavy copper heatsink i got before made it possible for me to plough at some resistors in an a7n8x and kill them.

that was 100 quid wasted because of a q-tec heatsink.

anyway i was using this thing on a rig to sell to my mate, waiting for some replacement heatsink to arrive, when he came in unscrewed the PSU and pressed on the heatsink... apparently it flew off and hit the graphics card...

    Now it's FRIED THE DURON!!!!

apparently the comp shut down on it's own... the duron looks good, smells ok, but does not boot either computer....how can it be fried when it looks ok???

anyway feel free to mash q-teck up, do you think i should send this story to a consumer watchdog

Well, if one small path in the CPU is destoryed (remember, it has a lot in there) then it could easily kill the chip.
Is that the NF2 chipset ?, if so it should shut it down before it overheats, but it may have died before that happened, as it sounds like some kind of freak accident.

he was unscrewing the PSU with the computer running ?

anyway, surely if it's got a faulty clip you shouldn't be using it ?!

qtec... first it was so tight that i killed a ceramic transistor on my asus nforce2, (asus i reckon make deliberately fragile a7n8x's with ceramic all around the clip area... abit is much better )
then the clip got loose somehow and flipped off my reliable but still not very good a7v. i guess my matey didnt know it was such a dodgy heatsink...
    it's reallY rantworthy
