Final spec, what do you guys think?

might go for the following:

Intel Pentium 4 "Prescott" 2.8GHz (800FSB) with HT Technology -
£109.95

Do you want to make a fire hazard out of your g/f's rig?
The Prescott runs at around 90 degrees C, thats some serious heat for not much performance benefit (i dont even thing there is much of one)
I'd stick to A64 if I were you

arrrghhhh, lol.. literally been reading and reading reviews for the past ...6 hours !

been going back and forth...

so Intel is totally out of the question then, what about northwood are they not as good ? know very little about intel

A northwood would be fine. Something like 3.0Ghz you can't go wrong. For Photoshop & stuffs you would either need a P4 Northwood or an A64, its your choice really, A64 has more power at the moment, as all the 64bit extensions will arrive and it will whoop a Northwood. On the other hand a Northwood can (i presume but I haven't done a side by side test) could compete with an A64 at this level.

Give it maybe 2 or 3 months and we'll (hopefully ) be in 64bit land, which will rock!
