As title, just seems to make more sense buying a 533 than an 800 for future upgrading reasons!
Also, if i can use an 800FSB model, the 533s only go upto 3.06Ghz, if i bought a 3.2 800 would it work at 3.2Ghz?
Thanks in advance
Ben

If you lower the fsb then the speed of the chip will go down as multiplier x fsb = clock speed. Because you are running at a lower fsb you should be able to up the multiplier a little but im not sure how far.
well, i own a dell which has a locked bios in that area, on an intel board i think
I plan on replacing the board/case at some time but not just yet, if i can get a new processor first it would be nice
Thanks for your help

Tbh i would just wait till you could afford both at the same time. As proc prices will drop even more and so are board prices
It's going to take a while!
might just wait until christmas time, get a Socket 939 and a new case/mobo
the answer is no or not that well first of all the cpu will get confused and try to run at 100fsb (400qdr) then when you up it to 133fsb (533qdr) it will work at that speed x the default multiplier.
Exactly what i saidOriginally Posted by Flash
so the answer is no because i can't manually change fsbs etc?

It should default to 400fsb instead and you can just overclock while in windows using a program like frontfsb which allows you to change the fsb Also it would depend on the ram that you have as that might max out.
at what speed though?
I mean if it's going to run at 2.6 or something there isn't much point in buying a 3.2 is there!
i don't think i can change the fsb in windows, i tried a program like that before which you have to enter one of the chips numbers into, i don't think it had my one!
Im using DDR400 running at DDR266 with corsair style timings (Changed it automatically)

I really think you should upgrade the mobo before anything else really as you are limiting the ram alot atm.

Well, it just annoys me that changing the mobo means changing the case too
That means forking out about £170 or something, also need a CPU Cooler
