    Bringing hardware back from USA

    Hi Folks,
I posted this earlier but i believe there was a problem with the servers and it got deleted.

I'm going to Orlando on Saturday for 2 weeks. I'd love to get some hardware to bring back, jesus still thinking about hardware on holiday im looking at a 9800 pro or a FX 5900 ultra. I've seen a visiontek 9800 pro for $299 - £190?

Can i just get rid of the packaging, shove it in my hand or bag luggage and walk through customs with it?

About what percentage of tax would i have to pay if they find a $300 gfx card or P4 or mobo.

great to get a 845PE mobo and a 2.4c as well

most things that will work for, but as your not taking a PC with you its unlikely - if they find it, but still worth posting your manuels back etc, then if they do find it you can blag that you took it over there for a m8 or something.....

and i believe you pay 17.5% with a slight admin charge ( i think )

i believe computer components are exempt from customs duty but have a check on the the customs and exercise site (though it's under some rediculously obscure category)

so all you should have to pay is 17.5% vat

as Gr44 said, i think it's unlikely you will be able to convince them that you took a gfx card or a cpu out there and then brought it back again.

I think the currency exchange is $<£. What i'm trying to say is that if your paying lets say $50 and for the same thing in U.K. it would be around £100 I think?

The last time I went to the USA I came back with a motherboard, processor and a stick of ram (assembled in the box the motherboard came in) in my hand luggage and a psu in my checked rucksack.

The only problem I had was trying to explain what a motherboard was to the woman running the xray machine at checkin! She wanted me to boot up my laptop

I'm hoping to bring back some goodies when I go in 2 weeks.

Hopefully, the new Powerbook will be released by then.

Say i bought back Mobo, Gig of ram and a Cpu, do you have to pay vat on each item?
I probably won't get that much but i'll definately get a 9800 pro or an FX 5900/ultra.
