    Monitor usage

I have an LG TFT monitor which has both a DB15 connection and a DVI one. My main system connects via the DVI. Could I use the DB15 connection even when the DVI is occupied at the same time when my main PC was off so I could use the other system via the DB15?

    Thanks for looking

    Very likely.

I've got a Samsung 181T TFT monitor, which has both digital and analogue connections.

I've got the digital cable running to my main PC and the analogue cable running to a secondary PC. A quick press of the exit button on the screen switches between the two.

I then use a 4-port switching USB hub from Maplins, to switch my mouse/meyboard/whatever between the two computers. Et voila, a cheap and easy KVM alternative.

    Maplin do two, USB1.1 (£20) or USB2.0 (£25).

Both allow you to control up to 4 USB devices from 2 computers. The switching hub can be powered using the supplied mains adapter and all the cables you need are included in the package.

They don't appear to have much stock on the website, but they had the USB2.0 one in my local Maplin store the last time I checked.

On my LG 1710B you just press the 'source' button and it changes between the DVI and VGA inputs...

Will pop into my local tommorow and see if they have one in stock.
