    Athlon XP to XP Mobile Guide

    I see tomshardware have got a guide showing you how to make an XP into an XP-M. Now they are using the chips for "underclocking" in devices such as IPCOP firewalls. Now, seeing as I'm a cheapskate and would rather pay 60 pounds for a processor as opposed to 130 pounds, I'm wondering if this would overclock like proverbial off a shovel.

    Nice link with images on how to do it

    http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/200...ocking-02.html

    Now, seeing as I have a normal 2500+ running @ 2300 Mhz I wonder if I'll get much of an overclock outta the baby using this method

    I expect I'll only find out when I do it....

    Please note - If you do this modification, then this poster, nor the people hosting the information can take responsibility for any damages arising due to this modification - Oh and it will invalidate your warranty as well

    Probably not as good as a normal mobile, as they are hand picked because they use less power.

    I don't see how that mod would improve overclocking. After all the mobiles are picked for their ability to run stable at low voltages.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Don't see how this could work at all unless you have an XP chip that would have made it as a mobile chip in another life!

    Changing it to a mobile one basically unlocks the multipliers.

    So after the mod - Your CPU will be unlocked.

    I'm sure they tried to make AS5 as non-conductive as possible.

    You can get silver conductive paint (what I use) or the silver conductive pens.

    I've seen the paint somewhere before but cannot remember where...

    To join up the two points. They are broken to lock the multiplier!

    ok can you use pencil lead? like the pencil mod thing

    does this unlock the multiplier both up and down or just down?

    does it work? cant you just solder it? tape up everything but the parts that need to be connected, then just make a line of solder and presto right?

    You were able to use pencil lead on the old Thunderbird chips (It worked!)

    But from the Palamino onwards, they have a far lower tolerance. They need almost a direct connection. (THG did a test)

    There is no reason why solder would not work but with the organic packaging of the CPU these days - I wouln't try. Conductive paint is £5.

    The Multiplier will be UNlocked. For up and down.

    And solder is almost out of the question as the points are SOO close together you almost cant get it without hitting 2 or 3 of the other bits...
