    Cheap Barton Rig

Hey guys building a computer system for my younger brother for xmas, these are the specs I’ve come up with so far, just would like to know what your thoughts are: -

    AMD Athlon XP 2500 [1.83GHZ 333] OEM

    Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe

    120GB Maxtor D/Max ATA133/7200 8MB

    Arianet Aeroflow - 420W USB/AUD/FW

    16X Sony DVD Silver

    Microsoft Intellimouse Optical

    ATI Sapphire 9600XT 128mb

no monitor or keyboard is needed just not sure what ram to get or the psu that comes with the case, it will be mainly be used for ms office and gaming! Thanks

Buy a NF7-S for the mobo, along with a SATA HD, IDE is a dying format.
Also, a price your looking to spend ?, a 9600XT is starting to show its age in regards to gaming.
Where you looking to buy from to ? - im guessing Aria ?
Considered getting a DVD writer as opposed to the sony reader only ? you can do CD's and DVD's on them (read and write to them)

thanks for the quick reply Agent!

I'll have a look at the NF7 - S mobo, was just going to get the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe coz of the WiFi card and slot, looking to set up a wireless network with my comp and this one!

Price range about 300 - 400, reason for choosing the 9600XT is that i already have it got it as a temp card while waiting for my X800 XT PE (LoL dunno why should of paid the extra 40 quid and got a 9800 Pro)! Yeah i just got this list straight off the aria site, once i have the list i want i'll look around for better prices!

I already have a DVD writer and cd writer so was thinking about just putting the CD writer in his comp! lol he's only 11 so dont think burning cds will a big thing for him right now, all seems to want to do is play games on the pc!

So what ram would you suggest to go with this system?

Well for gaming at least 512Mb PC3200 Value RAM. 1Gb would be ideal......
    Rig1: Asus A7N8X-X | AMD Athlon XP 2600+ @ 2200Mhz | Radeon 9800 Pro | Cooler Master Jet 7 | 512MB Samsung DDR400
    Rig2: Abit NF7-S Rev 2.0 | AMD Athlon XP 2500+ | Cooler Master Aero 7+ | Skystar 2 DVB Card | 256MB Crucial DDR333

corsair is my personal preference, but slightly more expensive then crucial. either 1 is superb value for money though.

i'll agree with waht agent said :

    Abit NF7-S v2
    SATA Maxtor/seagate 120
