Angry Gigabyte board not responding to any Keyboard

Hei there. I have a Gigabyte x79s motherboard that I got from Amazon a few weeks ago and I can't get past the Gigabyte welcome screen as it just won't respond to any keyboard.

I tried first with a ps/2 keyboard, then on all usb ports with a different K/B and cleared the CMOS via the jumper, Then cleared the CMOS by removing the lithium battery for more than 30mins( I know it only takes one, ). Before I put the battery back in, I shorted out the CMOS jumper some more for good measure! Same result !

I have taken out the MB from the case and laid it onto the box it came in then installed just one stick of RAM at a time(I have 4) in the DIMM 1 slot, along with the GFX card, CPU and cooler, no HDD/ODD. Same result!!!

When I press the power button, it goes to the GB welcome screen and waits for my keyboard input( <F9>, <F12>, <DEL>, etc). Doesn't matter how fast I spam any key, it's the same everytime. I can't install OS or do anything. Eventually it off to a black screen with a white flashing cursor on the top left corner.

I've noticed however that the NUM/SCROLL/CAPS LOCK, LEDs light up normally whenever their respective keys are pressed.

The board is a revision 1.0 and on GB website v1.1 is now available, so any advice would be most welcome.

Have you tried it with a bootable mem stick in? flashing cursor sounds like 'I'm trying to boot but don't have media' At least if you get something booted you can see if you get any response in windows.
Is it one of those gigabyte dual bios ones? Is there a procedure in the manual for checking which one is reset? You might be using the other one.

Thanks for your response. Yes it's a dual bios MB and there's a switch at the back panel for choosing which bios to use. I tried either but still no joy.
I haven't tried with a bootable mem stick but I don't have much hope for that. When I had the DVD drive installed, with the OS CD inside, the drive actually spun down. And since I can't access the boot menu, what use is a bootable memory stick if I can't prioritise it? Wouldn't it just take me to the same blank screen like it did with the OS CD? I will make one nonetheless.

Amazon CS are very good, just return it as faulty & aim for a v1.1 as a replacement.

With a bootable mem stick I still get the same thing. Just checked my Amazon and its more than 30 days since I bought the board so looks lkie RMA is the only way to go.

Your RMA is still with Amazon, you'll need to go through customer services for a replacement.

Use 'Contact Us' button - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cust...?nodeId=502564

Re: Gigabyte board not responding to any Keyboard

Thanks Macadee, I contacted Amazon and they said they can arrange a replacement. I've also borrowed a Motherboard speaker to make it easier to locate the problem. I get I beep after start up. then the gigabyte welcome screen shows up, waiting for my input. After 25 seconds I get another short beep, one more after 25s then one final one after abt 34s where it goes to the blank screen with the cursor in the corner. I'm now suspecting the memory to be the root of all this.

G.Skill F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL is the set that I have and i'm not too sure if it's not 'pre-programmed' with a profile that's not compatible with my BIOS?

Ram can have xms profiles, but you select those as part of the bios set up.

If possible you could try memtest on a bootable usb with one stick at a time.
