Looking for the cheapist way to make a SFF PC for my front room.

How much do you think it would cost for me to make a SFF Pc for my front room, all I want it for is it to be connected to my network so I can watch my videos and films on it.

Looking for nothing special I will even considering buying second hand parts.

Looking for a bit of a project

    Any ideas?

Right I just built a SFF system for someone on a budget of £500 and am very pleased with it

    I built it using: -
    • Biostar iDEQ 210v KM400A SFF (extremely pleased with this and acutually prefer it to the equivilant shuttle!)
    • AMD Sempron 2500+ PIB
    • 512MB DDR400 Major On Third memory from MicroDirect
    • 120GB Maxtor 7200RPM drive
    • Combi CDRW/DVD drive
    • Altec speakers
    • Wireless Keyboard and mouse
    • 17" BenQ TFT

All for £498 inc VAT and del.

Performs well and works nicely The iDEQ has a card reader and an IR reciever on the system. Add a decent AIW card such as the 9800SE AIW and a sound card and you'd be sorted. If it will be connected to a TV you could easily lose the 17" TFT and get the AIW and decent sound card

There are a load of SFF Compaq and DELL PS's on ebay and going cheap through IT disposal companys. Do a search for deskpro on ebay or browse the system auctions. Just do some research to double check that the particular model you are looking at is SFF as some were made in multiple formats.

You shouldnt need a crazy spec machine to do what you want, and a SFF 1ghz dekpro is around £70. They also tend to be quiet machines so not much modding required to get it silent.

Other option would be something like

    THIS

Ther are similar things to this around, somebody else might be able to help.

fireboard, wowo! good price! inc tft! congrats to you!

the biostar looks mint and ive read some good reviews! defo avoid shuttle if you are looking to go on a budget!

as it isnt gonna need much, you could use a cheapo ati aiw, some 160gb harddrive, a cheap sempron processor, you dont need the best spec! tell us what you do!

hmm sounds good firelord, how much do you pay for your TFT, I dont really need one and it will just be used to connect to my TV and play my videos that I have downloaded from emule and some of my mp3's.

Found it and it looks amazing, such a good idea. They are quite cheap on scan at just under £150 plus I can pull anything off my PC. I am highly considering this however I would like to build my own SFF . so have any of you got any specs in which I can build one for under £200

Why not get an xbox? You can turn them into media stations, and network it as well

VIA EPIA Nehemiah M10000 1Ghz All In One Motherboard - £103
    Chyang Fun 7989M - £65
    256Mb PC2100 - probably get a stick 2nd hand for around £20
    DVD-ROM - £16
    40Gb IDE HDD - £30

Comes to £234. Hunt around for 2nd hand Epia 10000 mobos, as it'll be cheaper, and some will sell it with the ram or a case for a cheapers price.

is that all the bits I would need to wack together a machine?

Would i need a keyboard and mouse or could I use some sort of control.

What software would I need, would it be Windows media centre?
