the only reason i can think of not twisting is incase u squash it all off but if u pull of the heatsink it never has and its fine so twist away although only a little wiggle dont try any 360's !
It is just because you try and put on an even layer but when you twist it then it all goes to pot. I would like to see someone twist a heatsink with Intels mounting cage on

Try the Arctic Silver website (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm). I think I used acetone last time, and everything's fine (so far!)

Edit: Bboy_Jon, your sig is too high (should be 100 pixels high) - that means a mod will probably delete it if they see it! See this thread: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=31113

Use alcohol and a lint free cloth. I just use one of those glass cleaning cloths. Just make sure you get it all off.

alcohol is fine i use toilet paper folded up to little bits to wipe it off works fine but dont drag it all over the cpu

i dont really mean twist i mean give it a little wiggle about just to push out ainy air bubbles and just make sure nothings loose

I actually use a razor blade to spread the AS5 over the core as evenly as possible. This works best when the CPU isn't actually in the board just yet - nothing more annoying than having to redo a section when the blade bumps into a capacitor and smudges your perfectly flat layer of paste.

Shall have to look into that clingfilm idea, though.

And Bboy_Jon - alcohol would work just fine. Though try to use a tissue or a polishing cloth of some kind, to avoid leaving little fibres or particles behind.

My attempts at a thin coating of AS5 usually fail while using the credit card method, I just hope the HSF flatens it out a bit Will try the clingflim method next time, maybe i'll be able to apply a thin coat then
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
