Overtyping

Sometimes, when I'm writing a new thread, or even replying to someone elses in advanced mode, it overtypes what I've written. Like if I wanted to put in something before "sometimes", it would overtype that word. I think I've noticed it most when I edit my posts - I often find errors and try to ammend them .

Any ideas why it doing that/how to stop it etc?

I'm using firefox, but I think it also did it in IE when I used to use that too (could be wrong though).

Press the "insert" key

Ah - It's obviously my ignorance towards the modern day keyboard then! I wondered why it kept doing it in word as well!

Now for the tfffffffffffffffffffffffest.

It didn't work - I pressed insert and it didn't ovetype.

Moved as it's not an issue with our site, it's an issue with the user's PC. Sounds like you may need to press a function key to turn insert on ? Is it an MS Office keyboard or a laptop ?

I remember about 4/5 years ago when I rewrote about 1000 words of an essay because it started overtyping and I didnt have a clue what was going on! Then it happened again so I sat and pressed every key and eventually found 'insert'. Damn that was annoying.

Well I know the way round it on office - there a button to double click at the bottom.

I think for this site the next time it happens, I'll try pressing insert, if not, I'll continue what I've been doing - typing what I want at the end and pasting it to where I want it .

Insert has no effect on anything in FireFox for me. Another reason why I'm coming close to switching back to IE :\

you only press insert in office applications such as Word, it turns overtype on and off, no sure about the firefox issue though

Some laptops get confused when you type, if your wrist brushes over the touchpad (or even gets close) it ballses things up, if thats the case, turn down sensitivity. I've noticed that Firefox sometimes incorrectly highlights stuff tho. Insert should work in all apps tbh, works on Notepad as well as Word.

It works in every other piece of software I've used
