    Have a look at this thread http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?threadid=3197 and the Zalman site http://www.zalmanusa.com/ for fitting details. The Zalman site also has a list of problem boards. All the reviews I've read seem to rate it and when I can find one at a decent price it's going in my rig!

    They're pretty heavy coolers so not suited to those moving their PC around. They are reportedly very good but may limit your o/c as they are rated to around XP2000+ Pally (1.66ghz) or TbredB 2.13ghz (XP2600+) but should hit 2.20ghz (XP3200+ if Barton). I'm sure you can put your own fan in (any case fan will do) and that offers some great flexibility. I would rec you buy from www.maplin.co.uk as they have it for £35 but you get free P&P and can save more if you sign up to their email news letters. I don't think they're very incompatible so long as you don't have an unusual case really.

    what are you talking about??? austin have you gone completely insane?

    the CNPS7000CU is a PENTIUM 4 ONLY heatsink

    its NOT RATED FOR ANY AMD SPEEDS!

    plus its the best noise/performance heatsink... its a real shame there is NO amd version...

    true they are heavy... and moving pc shouldnt be done unnecessarily

    The weight is the only reason I went for the AlCu version of the same heatsink.

    Going by a couple of reviews, the only difference is rapid temp change when the copper one can buffer it slightly better but its hardly noticeable.....

    They seem to work well tho.

    My CPU temps are around 42-45oC...... These may seem high to ppl comparing it to others that get 32oC but then I only have the CPU fan (92mm) running at 1600RPM meaning its silent.... Running Toast fro 3 hours or so and it never went above 50oC.... It idles around 39oC according to winbond monitor program which is about 2oC above the Bios temps.....

    Only thing I need to do is remove the NB fan for a passive heatsink as its the only thing I can actually hear on my system (4 case fans running at 1300RPM normally - Antec fans on Antec truepower fan only connectors giving case temps of 28-30)

    I'd recommend the Zalman altho you may want to use something like Arctic Silver 3 as opposed to the supplied paste....

    The latest version of the CNPS7000CU, the "A" version, supports AMD processors see http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/prod...ps7000a-cu.htm

    Not insane just up to date

    It does get confusing ... both Zalman Flower and Gigabyte's naming that is.

    Some of the Flowers...

    CNPS6000-CU = SktA all copper
    CNPS6000-ALCU = SktA alu+copper hybrid (20% cheaper)
    CNPS5100-CU = SktA & Skt478 all copper
    CNPS6500B-CU = Skt478 all copper
    CNPS6500B-ALCU = Skt478 alu+copper hybrid (20% cheaper)

    Some of the Gigabyte mobos...

    7N400 = SktA nForce2 Ultra400/MCP (no SATA)
    7N400pro = SktA nForce2 Ultra400/MCP-T
    7N400pro2 = SktA nForce2 Ultra400/MCP
    7N400E = SktA nForce2 400/MCP (no Dual Channel, no LAN no SATA)
    7N400E-L = SktA nForce2 400/MCP (no Dual Channel nor SATA)
    7N400-L = SktA nForce2 Ultra400/MCP (no SATA)
    7N400-L1 = SktA nForce2 Ultra400/MCP (no SATA)
    7N400V = SktA nForce2 IGP/MCP (no 400FSB, no DDR400, no SATA, no LAN)
    7N400Vpro = SktA nForce2 IGP/MCP-T (no 400FSB, no DDR400)
    7N400Vpro2 = SktA nForce2 IGP/MCP-T (no 400FSB, no DDR400)
    7N400V-L = SktA nForce2 IGP/MCP (no 400FSB, no DDR400, no SATA)

    ah ha...............................................................................................

    why didnt he specify it was the A version...

    its just always annoyed me - the fact that the CNPS7000CU couldnt work on amd... but i didnt know about the A version - so it felt like you were rubbing salt into wounds... that it did work... but BADLY..

    anyway... ive bought a slk900u w/ smart fan 2 for my amd 1800+ juihb dl3tc

    all my parts have finally arrived... when i get back from work my masterpiece can be born
