I believe that is the northbridge temp ?, this is at idle, with only chrome running, case fans on my NZXT tempest running at medium speeds (2x120mm intake, 2x140mm exhaust)
Overclocked to 3.3ghz at slightly lower than stock voltages
Motherboard MSI X58 Platinum SLI LGA 1366 Intel X58
I wanna overclock my cpu more but those northbridge temps are making me wary

That's pretty high, get a fan on it if possible.
Stress it and see if it goes up? The am2+ chipsets where made on old fabs and ran hot all the time.
Edit: you should be able to change the ioh voltage. 1.2v was mentioned on another forum. Maybe it on auto.

That is very hot and if that is at idle how hot does it get at load? It could be worth removing the heatsink, cleaning it up and applying some new tim to it. That should make some difference. Other than that you are looking at sticking a fan on it. You could use cable ties to attach a 60mm or bigger fan or get a Antec spot cool and angle it over the heatsink.
X58 northbridge always runs hot, but that's quite a bit more than I've seen myself. How are you overclocking? If you've left IOH voltages on auto then this will happen - try manually keeping the voltage on the IOH down - it shouldn't affect CPU overclocking.
Load for 20mins on prime 95, IOH temp went up to mid 80s :/. Ill be getting my hands of some new thermal paste soon ( Gelid soulutions GC extreme ) then ill remove the nb heatsink apply some new paste on it see if it helps. Should I look to get a new NB heatsink? Amy recommendations ?

What are your IOH voltages?
get a aftermarket heatsink for your capacitors near the cpu socket
How would that help cool the IOH? Not to mention in most cases they'll be obscured by the the CPU heatsink.Originally Posted by ekamdeep
