GTX960 performance previewed

A pre-overclocked card with a 10% core overclock was tested and its barely faster than a GTX760 but consumes 40W less at the wall:

With the overpriced R9 285 it appears the sub £200 market is stagnating.

The GTX660 results need to be taken with a pinch of salt as the GTX660 had artificially low power limits, which meant overclocking gained not much in performance unless you used something like Kepler Golden Bios.

Oh dear, how embarrassing. Doesn't consume much less than a 970, but performs much worse. Dear oh dear. I hope AMD take advantage of this poor release by nvidia. May as well pick up a 760! Probably SLI them for the money you'd spend on a good 960...

The thing is I expect the review websites to big the power savings and the overclocking potential especially over the GTX660.

But that's assuming people want to overclock. This thing is still going to eat a fair amount of power, so it won't be quiet, and throwing voltage at it is only going to produce more heat. I really can't see the point of buying this. Maybe they're going back to 600 series where they'll release a 960 Ti which will cost 190 ish new.

If they price it cheaply like £130 or less than it might be redeemed - but if the performance preview is true and this costs around £150,it will be interesting to see what sites will give this over 9/10 and massive recommendations!

Any site that does is clearly showing that the rating of a product is directly proportional to the amount of money they're being paid

Well thats a shame. I wasn't really expecting to upgrade anyway since I only just built with a 760 but thats an even smaller difference than I expected.

Meh, if the performance is that bad then it's not worth the upgrade.

The figures do look very unimpressive compared to the 760 - seems like a pointless inclusion that is more like a re-badge than a proper new product.

Its basically a mobile GPU overclocked for desktop. Should mean some decent enough gaming laptops.
