Should I send my RAM back?

    Hi,

I've just taken delivery of a TwinMos PC3200 1GB DDR Dual Channel kit, which I used to build my new PC from scratch last night.

Everything seems to be fine, however I've just ran it through memtest86 and it found 29 errors after 2 passes. 1 error showed up during the first pass and 28 in the second, however no more have appeared in 4 subsequent passes.

Given that I've not seen any visible problems so far (this is the second night of using it) should I be sending it back or is this a tolerable amount of errors?

    Any advice much appreciated.

    thanks,
    dave

What voltage are you running your ram at, I see from the TwinMos site that in needs 2.6 Voltage +/- 0.1V for the rated spec.

So although "normal" voltage is 2.5, I guess its not out of spec unless it fails at 2.7

How do I find out what voltage I'm running my RAM at?

I looked in the BIOS, but I can't see anything relating specifically to RAM voltage.

My motherboard is an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe, and I haven't tweaked the BIOS at all since building it.

    thanks,
    dave

If you haven't changed it then it will be 2.5v but tbh, We are running 1gb of TwinMOS with only 2.5v

You have to be sure its the memory though - it could be the chipset or maybe the cpu.

have you tried with only one stick in run the tests and then do the same on the other to see if the errors occur on both or just one stick?

    Thumbs up

    Hi,

I called the technical support line of the company I got it from to ask about the returns procedue (just in case) and they said raise the DDR reference voltage to 2.65 because thats what the Canterwood/Springdale chipsets require in order to work with this RAM. Not sure if he meant DDR400 in general, or TwinMOS specifically.

Without pausing for breath, the guy also told me how to access the DDR voltage settings from the BIOS (advanced->jumper free settings-> set AI overclocking to manual and lots of voltage and frequency options magically appear)!

Anyway, I cranked the voltage up to 2.65, re-ran memtest86 and lo and behold... no errors.

Problem solved. Thanks for all your input, guys.

    cheers,
    dave
