£191 for 7870K and Gig Mobo

£200 alone for that Iris Pro Intel CPU (Core i5-5675C 3.10GHz Broadwell) ! Ok, i wouldn't be buying a Dedicated GPU but with a mobo it would be close to £300 once you factor in a heatsink for the CPU. £100 more than AMD! Is that difference justifiable?

To be honest, to me, no. If i had the money then i may be tempted!

If you are loaded with money, then a 5675C coupled with an AMD R9 Nano would make for an awsome and compact system. Ironically Iris Pro makes sense as an L4 cache in high end systems, just not for integrated graphics

I have been given an old Geforce 8800 GTS. Would this work good alongside the AMD 7870K?

    Re: Mini ITX Setup

OK, it's taken quite a bit of tracking back through 4 or 5 reviews and then cross-comparing specifications, BUT

I'm pretty damn sure the IGP in the 7870k will be faster than the 8800 GTS.

I know for damn sure that it'll use a lot less power: the 8800 GTS is and OLD GPU from back in the days when GPUs were really bad at power management - where you'll really notice the extra power is in idle power draw. Back in the day I had a system with a Q6600 and an 8800GTX, and it pulled more at idle than any APU system will pull at full load (it even pulled more at idle than a Phenom II quad core + 7750 at load).

The two GPUs won't work together; it's one or the other, and the IGP is just plain better than the 8800 GTS.

So basically, you'll be putting an old GPU in your system, it'll perform worse than the IGP that'll be sitting idle, and it'll probably chew though as much power on its own than the rest of the system put together.

if you've got some old spare bits lying around the 8800 GTS would be a decent GPU for a basic gaming build made from spares. But as a GPU in a modern system, it makes no sense. I'd suggest you donate it ASAP, I'm afraid...

    Re: Mini ITX Setup

Guys, i am looking now for a quiet CPU cooler for the A10-7870K. Stock one is a bit whinny!

Any ideas as to a quiet CPU cooler and possibly low profile to aid airflow? Ta

Very case dependent, if you say how much clearance you have someone might be able to help.

Did you get a heatpipe cooler with that? Annoying that they use 70mm fans, hard to change for a better one.

Edit to add: My daughter's PC uses a Scythe Shuriken http://www.scan.co.uk/products/scyth...-amd-intel-cpu
but the fan failed so she has ended up with an Arctic F9 PWM case fan on it which is nice and quiet. The fan adds extra height, but I swapped out the ATX psu for a Silverstone SFX one that comes with an ATX adapter plate and gets me more room to play with.

    Re: Mini ITX Setup

    You mean this one? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/raiji...ca-010-rt.html

160mm height is loads. Does the motherboard look like it could do with some air blowing down on it? You could get a tower cooler in that much space. I would just get something with the biggest fan you can get in there.

Edit to add: Could the Hexus review today be well timed? Looks like that might fit http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/coolin...c-freezer-i32/

Cheers i prefer a top down cooler, low profile too, but, having said that,i may be tempted to get an upright cooler if it is Extremely quiet and efficient!

Top down fans can have an advantage cooling the motherboard, so that's fine. I think the main thing here is you want a really big fan, so if you can fit a 120mm fan model in there then that is great.
