    VGA Silencer rev2 & 3 vs. ATI Silencer 3

I currently have a rather poorly lapped VGA Silencer revision 2 on my R9800Pro (Yet it's an XT board. Go figure). (On a side note, do hesitate before lapping a heatsink where the center of gravity is not over the lapped area. My VGA Silencer is now a little.. skew. ) So it needs replacing. The only reason I hesitate going with the ATI Silencer 3 is, with the fan portion being enormous and all, I'll probably have to do a little modification on my southbridge heatsink.

What I want to know is, should I try (being the key word) get another VGA Silencer revision 2, a revision 3, or go for the ATI Silencer 3? Does anyone have experience with both? And if so, how's the performance between them? Thanks.

Re-lap it tbh, use some glass next time, tape the sandpaper to the glass so it doesn't go concave

    Edit:

Only review I can find with temps here:

(and that's the AlCu version so maybe the all copper version performs better)

This should be in the graphics card section as it is a graphics card related issue....

Go for the revision 3 model as it has a slighter better fan iirc

Why not the ATI Silencer 3? It includes a heatsink for the RAM on the back of the card. It also seems to be the better cooler, what with having a larger surface area.

LeeumH - I used a flat block of marble. Taped the sandpaper to it, and then rubbed the heatsink against that (Can't really do it the other way 'round - the block of marble is about 20KG ). With the center of gravity being the way it is, the depth of the core contact block now decreases as you move towards the end of the heatsink that has more weight on it. Couldn't fix it, no matter how hard I tried applying more pressure to the other side.
