perhaps they could make some ram with a buzzer on it so that it bleeped whenever data was sent to the memory!

Do you know how much power is required to light an LED?Originally posted by spikegifted
Even Task Manager, which is FREE and written by Microsoft, can do the job!!
How do you think the LEDs are powered? I suspect it's drawing power from VDimm which means that when the memory is most used (ie. when it requires most power), the LEDs are drawing the most from the source (to light up all those pretty little lights)... So, ok, you can up the VDimm to compensate, but higher voltages will eventually lead to shorter operating life of the modules - same with any semi-conductor - so your stick of RAM with fancy utilization indicator LEDs will ultimately fail on you quicker than standard sticks! Which of course will be just fine for Corsair.
Only ~0.7v and ~10mA are required to power an LED. This is ~7mW. This is not gonna fry any memory, even under full load.
Your right, I wouldn't worry about VDimm power draw or life issues. Corsair wouldn't be stupid and not atleast research into power cosumption a little.Originally posted by Big RICHARD

what a way to ruin a perfectly good looking piece of Ram.
If it's 7mW for the entire array of LEDs, that's fair enough. But is it? I thought, and still think, it is around 7mW per LED... I might be wrong.Originally posted by Big RICHARD

Either way, I still think this is one gimmic that isn't needed.

18 x 7 = 126 mW for the whole array.
Hardly worth worrying about.
There are other gimmicks that aren't needed that are still bought TBH. Cold cathodes? Fancy cases? etc etc.....
