    Upgrading the shuttle fan...

Is it a simple job to upgrade the shuttle fan?

I'm thinking of getting a nice quiet 80mm panaflo fan (32db, 40CFM) and having it running all the time rather than the current offering.

Is it just a case of pulling the other one out and putting this one in?

Also is it worth replacing the psu fan and will it make much difference?

One more question: I'm currently not using the shim. How easy is it to damage the cpu with the heatpipe? Is it worth putting it on after I next take it apart?

replacing the case fan is simple, any1 could do it.

PSU fan - yes aslong as u can solder and secure the wires afterward (only 2)

and shim, cooler without, and aslong as u dont drop it, safe without also :E

    Cheers Russ.

I've ordered myself that Panaflo fan. Probably be a bit noisier but worth it for the extra cooling.

Won't bother with PSU fan even though I'm quite good at soldering.

If you replace the Shuttle fan, it becomes almost silent if you pick the right fan ....

Even a normal fan, not known to be quiet will still be quieter in the shuttle as it is temperature controlled.
