hI,
SO How long will it taks for A64 3000 to encode 700mb xvid video into a dvd r to put in on a dvd ? and how long will it take fx55 to do the same amount of encoding? are there any consequences for doing such a heavy work on the pc?

acctually it shouldn't take that long at all to 'encode' xvid->mpeg 2, all it has to do is fill out the frames a bit for compatiblity, compressing video streams is the really hard part, probibly would take 4 hours on your system to encode a 2 hour movie, (roughly, milage varies). And consequences of such a heavy load is no more different than playing UT2004 for the same ammount of time.
4hrs to do 2hrs worth on that CPU? I dont think so.
how does it compare if i o/c my pc to 2300mhz, aka 3300+ speed
javalord, it really does depend on various factors, i havn't got an athlon 64 so i don't know for sure.. its just a 'best guess'.. besides, the question wasn't about compressing, its about decompressing.
as for decompressing it shouldn't take much longer than an hour.. mpeg 2 is a peice of piss
