Maxtors seem to have an incredibly high failure rate ......... if you do replace it consider another brand
Clicking and clunking noises are really a point for concern. I'm not sure that whining is a sign of anything wrong, but you should backup important data nonetheless.
I would RMA it if you can - it's one of the RMA options.
I dont know how old the HDD, i got it 2nd hand a few months ago, it does about 2/3hours a day now, but i dont know what it did before it got it.
- It has no important files on it at all, apart from emails & addresses, which are backed up onto the server reguarly anyway.
thanks, danel
Once had an 8gb maxtor drive, it developed a whine that over the years got louder and louder and louder until it was unbearable, but it never failed. Eventually got sold to someone who wanted it for the circuit board to recover their own drive.
Even if it doesn't fail, if it's still under warranty RMA it before it gets unbearable!
