I think my 1700 JUIHB DLT3C may have passed away, so I'll be looking for an alternative replacement that can do around 2200mhz, I'm gonna keep an eye on how these chips do I think, or I might even go for a 1600mhz Duron for some good old Duron lovin'

Has anyone else got one of these AQXEA beasties? How have you got on with it?

I had a bit of a google on the AQZEA, and it seems like they o/c just as well as the AQXEA, if not better

Hmmm... My XP1700 is stable up to around 2.5ghz on air, just a touch too hot! I'm not sure if it's worth changing imo.

IMHO all Barton cores are good, you have to be VERY unlucky to find one which tops out around 2.0ghz which is still as fast as a TbredB at 2.1ghz anyway. Go by price of the XP2500+ rather than worrying about the core.

Sure the new Durons should clock fast but they're likely to around 15% slower clock for clock than a Barton even when you raise the Duron's FSB speed. For an idea of comparable perf between the new Durons, TbredB and Barton...

    Duron @ 2.3ghz = TbredB @ 2.1ghz = Barton @ 2.0ghz
    Duron @ 2.4ghz = TbredB @ 2.2ghz = Barton @ 2.1ghz
    Duron @ 2.5ghz = TbredB @ 2.3ghz = Barton @ 2.2ghz
    Duron @ 2.65ghz = TbredB @ 2.4ghz = Barton @ 2.3ghz

The Durons should cost around £35-40 (cheaper in a month or so) and it would seem clock on average 2.2-2.4ghz. The TbredB should cost £40-50 and clock on average 2.1-2.3ghz. The Barton cost £70 and clock on average 2.1-2.25ghz.

Just rem all Durons from 1.4ghz up SHOULD be the new 0.13mu core but could also be o/c'ed 0.18mu Durons (1.5ghz o/c tops), be careful. When buying a TbredB you must be sure it is JIUHB, AIUHB (etc) as neither DLT3C nor DUT3C ensure TbredB ... TbredA is much poorer. Things are easiest with Bartons as any XP2500+ is a guaranteed Barton.

The problem is that almost all those 0.13mu are derived from Tbreds (some probably TbredA) which had part of the L2 cache faulty, hence locking som eof it off rather than binning the CPU. Chances will surely be significantly less than all those who tried to mod their lowly 9500nonPRO into a 9700PRO and the chances of enabling 8 pipes even with a 9700PCB was well below 50%. Not worth the gamble as we're talking £5ish diff for a guaranteed 256k L2 TbredB. Not only that but the reason it's more likely to hit such high speeds is due to having some of the cache disabled. Re-enabling the whole cache is likely to inhibit the attainable clock speed and that's if it works ... it can be harder to reversea bridge mod.

I could understand those who wanted to turn their £100 gfx card into a £400 monster but it seems a little futile to try turning a £35 CPU into a £40 CPU ...
