Exclamation Best socket A motherboard(Apart from sSiS chipset) for around £30-40

Right, Im getting my old sis board replaced for £30 pounds. I primarily want something that is fast, stable and will work well with my 6600gt. I would like to do a little bit of overclocking but I'm not sure I will be able to go far with a pretty bad heatsink and 333ram. So maybe it's not worth getting the NF7 v2 but maybe something with pci/agp locks that will get my 2600xp near 2.1ghz. Thanks,John.

An NForce2 board is still what you want.
Only real alternative would be a VIA KT880 based board but I would go nForce2.
NF7 V2.0 would be perfect as would the Soltek SL-75FRN

It's been a great board for me, can't fault it.

Ok and about the overclocking, because my RAM isn't 400mhz would it be just best to see how far I can push the fsb up rather than dropping the multiplier and going to 400mhz like a 3200xp, thanks, john.

Depending on the quality of your memory you *might* get 400fsb out of it, if your lucky.

Just up the fsb a bit at a time.
Btw a 333fsb XP2600 shoould be running 2.083 GHz which is as near as dammit 2.1GHz anyway. I would be aiming for a bit more.

thats a Throughbred 2600 which runs at 2.083ghz, the barton runs a bit lower at 1.917ghz, so overclocking to 2.1ghz would give him nearly 3100 speeds, not bad.

EDIT: Although he hasnt said if its a barton or not, i presume it is, as the throughbred 2600's weren't that common.

333FSB were, the 266FSB XP2600+s at 2.13GHz were pretty rare though.
Never thought that it might be a Barton

Got a 2600+ Barton back under RMA from fleabuyer when my 2600+ T-Bred blew up (along with my A7N8X Deluxe!), which was nice. 266FSB 2600's are nigh on impossible to find though, i've only ever seen one for sale...

Yeah it is a barton and it runs at 1.91-2 so to do get it to 2.1 would give me quite a boost, If Icould get it near 2.2 I would be extremely pleased!!
