Please correct me if im wrong but doesnt ps2 scan the mouse movement at a quicker rate than usb can handle so the curser moves more accurately. I think i read this somwhere. ps2 is capable of about 100hz and usb is capable of about half that.

Amen to that. I'd like to use my memory stick for all those situations that require a floppy.Originally Posted by Kez

I still have a floppy for the S-ATA driver install, and I still use a PS/2 keyboard. But IMO they should drop paralell and serial ports though, surely they are obsolete (sp.?) now.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
I still use a PS2 Keyboard (Never had much luck with USB keyboards at home and at work - they always seem very hit and miss!) however always using mouse in usb.
Apart from that I havnt used a floppy drive in years, everything is done using bootable CD's and parallel and serial ports should of gone AGES AGO!
You have to keep in mind some ppl and work places (like mine) keep their PCs for years and years, and rightly so they should still be able to buy new compatible hardware for them, not everyone changes their Mo'Bo every 12 months ...Saying that though, floppy needs to get binned, they r just too unreliable and noisy and just r crap basically...
I'd like to see more USB ports and less serial and parallel ports... I NEVER use those. But I do use PS2 ports occasionally for troubleshooting, etc.
USB is a better platform for mice though. Quicker than PS2

Yeh, I still use a parallel port for meh printer, but if I buy a new comp now I will get a new printer, as this HP 850C is getting ooooold.
I still use a printer that was bought over eight years ago - it's still fine for printing text, and uses a parallel port.

Yea i have a friend that uses a parallel port for his printer too. But thats because its a very nice laser printer, even if it is ten years old!
Legacy is still good for testing, so, I really don't see it going away anytime soon. We use a com port for hooking up Kernel Debugger... plus, like mentioned before, I still have some printers on parallel, that I could just hook up to my kids comp and not need to buy another one(saving $$)....

We had some laptops delivered a while back which were serial-less, with the result that our engineers couldn't use them (even via a USB > Serial adapter) with electronic surveying equipment. Personally, I think the whole legacy free thing (except as stated above for very small form factor machines) is more a fashion statement than anything else. My latest servers still have COM ports and bloody glad of them I am too; UPS connections anyone?
Gotta have an RS232 port on.... million and one uses for development work.
RS232 is found on a whole range of kit now including plasma displays, amps, dvd players, sky boxes for software upgrades.

Do you really need more than 4 on the backplate? My Asus has 8 USB on back but that's because I don't use the case connectors.
It helps with troubleshooting a PC to have many port options.
Err, not being funny, but do you know what the S in USB stands for?Originally Posted by St3v3
