Not looking to overclock just yet, more to keep the system running well and as cool as possible.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    SpeedFan
    Everest
All your drivers, direct from the manufacturer, AMD (CnQ), nVidia, Marvel, RealTek.

When you do OC, try ClockGen.

I agree with Curly, Everest is really quite good. And the company is actively working with folks in the forums to improve it. That means a lot to me.

Look through the forums, they have at least one employee in there, Fiery, who will work with you to solve problems with identifying stuff or picking up readings. They did a bang up job with getting readings on the nVidia series 6 cards.

    Diskeeper pro,
    system mechanic pro,
    spybot search and destroy,
    Avast! antivirus,
    Zone alarm,
    Ad-aware,
Look into 'coolbits', it's a great tool for OCing your graphics card

    Forgot Diskkeeper Pro

I have AVG anti-virus and I shouldn't need ZoneAlarm as I have a DG834GT router and the XP firewall will suffice.

Seeing as the room temp is 30+ in the day, I don't think I'll be oc'ing for a while, but thanks for the info though.

My ambient is about the same, living in Hawaii without AC, and I've had no temperature related reasons to not OC.

On other notes, I don't know if I would put that much faith in the XP firewall. Maybe your router is good enough.

I was thinking of tweaking and oc'ing a little, but when I had Speedfan running last night during a session on RTW, I noticed the fan speed increased dramatically and when I closed the game, the CPU temp was 55
That's after it'd had a few seconds on a light load to cool down, while RTW closed.

One thing to note though, I haven't actually configured Speedfan, just run it as is and I have the BIOS set to maintain the CPU at 45 degrees.

Definitely get into configuring SpeedFan. Its a bit tedious and sort of complicated at first, simply because it has so many options and can do so much, but once you get the picture, its relatively easy to do, just time consuming.

What version of the SN95G5 do you have? It'll be either a V1.x or a V2.0 and you can identify which by looking at the mainboard in the left rear corner by the AGP slot. It'll be stencilled on there. If you have a V1.x, there's one routine, if you have the V2.0, there's another. For the V1.x, get SpeedFan 4.19 (though the latest version may have fixed things), if you have a V2.0, get the absolutely latest version, I think its 4.22 or 4.23 or something like that. They all work the same, you have to use Configure to set it up. I've listed the steps in a couple of posts in Sudhian's SFF forums. Same nick.

    It's the v2. I have 4.21, but I'll check for an update.

I'll search for the settings on Sudhian too. Cheers.

Just checked Sudhian and I couldn't see any threads about the Speedfan settings. I've asked in a seperate thread anyway ( dons flameproof shirt and sits back ).

Did you do a search? Because there's been at least a couple dozen threads on the subject.

I did a search for Speedfan and Speed + Fan ( without the plus sign ).

There were some results, but nothing seemed to be suitable
