Re: Ryzen 1600 AF or Gigabyte Aorus Pro causing overclock problems?

I have been doing the RAM and CPU OC completely separate. When doing the CPU, I reset the BIOS fully, did the OC and noted the best stable settings (38x @ +0.258V). For the RAM overclock, again I reset the BIOS so that the CPU multiplier and voltage are completely standard.

From what I had read, the SOC on the Zen+ didn't have to be fettled with half as much as the original Zen so I haven't added any offset voltage to that at all really. I think VIN4 on HWMonitor is the SOC voltage, and it averages around 1.1V which is what I have seen is the recommended voltage?

It was better out of the box - so I could boot immediately to XMP settings on my 3200MHZ kit. Remember, the official max supported speed is 2933MHZ single ranked,so 3200MHZ is already technically out of spec. Compared to the first generation systems I had the pleasure of helping with near the launch, friends couldn't even get 3000MHZ kits to work properly! But even Zen+ still apparently needs some tweaking. I assume you have an aftermarket cooler on the CPU,so I would try tweaking the voltages some more for the SOC. With core overclocks,I wouldn't worry so much TBF,its only single digit performance(in percent) between 3.8GHZ and 4GHZ,and it's probably not worth the extra heat, etc.

I have an Arctic Freezer 34 eSports so cooling is not the best, but should be more than upto the job for this chip. I'll probably stick with 3.8GHz and accept that and try get a bit more out of the RAM somehow.

That is more than good enough - Zen isn't Bulldozer!

    Edit!!

Also make sure you have good airflow through the system - your motherboard does have slightly toasty VRMs IIRC,although the tests tended to be done with a Ryzen 7 2700X,which is more of a load TBF.

Re: Ryzen 1600 AF or Gigabyte Aorus Pro causing overclock problems?

The VRM temps have never really got above 70C even using OCCT so I think they are being kept cool enough, although I'm basing that on the temps that users have posted of albeit other boards.

I appreciate all the help and the info posted earlier in the thread!

Re: Ryzen 1600 AF or Gigabyte Aorus Pro causing overclock problems?

I just had a tinker and as I remember its a stinker too.

Multi Vcore actual Vcore P state CnC RAM OC Test Temp sidepanel on/off (C) Result
    40 1.3625 ? P1 On N AIDA/Prime 79 7min soft AIDA crash
    40 1.375 1.384 P0 off Y " 84C / 79 11min soft AIDA+prime crash
    40 1.4 1.408 P0 off Y " - / 80 6min soft AIDA+prime crash

    VRM max was 60C.

No joy this end. I can turn off CnC and use P2 but no more voltage is going to be used as I am at 80C until I get better cooling. I have a horrible feeling my heatpipe may have leaked when I cleaned it up with some brasso; there was a darker than expected spot on the base. My thermal paste is >10 years old and my case is a P183. I need new case fans too. My PSU will need changing soon too :.(

EDIT: went to change bios and some values had not stuck. will retry.
    EDIT 7 mins no joy.....
