Re: Entry Level Workstation Build, sub £1000
Thanks for the help guys.
Updated parts list for reference.

I didn't realise the 3900 was only £40 more through AWD-IT so I've adjusted the list on PC part picker more for just reference, to follow your's and everyone else's recommendations.

It's good to know the 570 is capable like that, should be fine for what my Brother in law needs.

Nice find with the windows licence, is that a physical copy?
Re: Entry Level Workstation Build, sub £1000
is that site legit (the pcpro one for the win10 licence)? Payments go via cleverbridge who get hammered on trust pilot. 1.5/5

Having looked through their site they offer a DVD for £7 extra but don't bother. the code is all you need. then you can download your own iso file direct from Microsoft and know you're installing a completely clean OS.
If we can get confirmation it's legit then I'm getting one for myself.

Looking at the prices, and the "free" offer of a cheaper retail 3600 with motherboard, I wonder if these CPUs are all OEM and require a heatsink purchase. Still a decent price though.

It surprising how relatively expensive the Ryzen 7 3700X is compared to it.
Make sure you click the free SU630 if you do buy it(it reverts back to the option being not added in the basket).

The Ryzen 9 3900 probably is.
My mate got the Ryzen 9 3900 with a B450 Tomahawk from the same place and it came with a cooler already installed. I don't know what stock cooler though,ie,Wraith Stealth,Wraith Spire or Wraith Prism.
The OP could e-mail them to ask. They could also get a CM 212 EVO for £25 which should be quieter.
Edit!!
The bundle warranty is apparently 3 years:

I've not used it so can't vouch for the site.
It's on the PC Pro facebook page posted way back in May https://www.facebook.com/pcpro/photo...type=3&theater
Also seen it on HotUKDeals - https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/win...-store-3543619

IIRC microsoft offers a student discount for anyone with a university email address, might be worth looking into

But ultimatly my brother in law has a strong work ethic and will be wanting do do everything he can at home to make more time at uni for more hands on learning instead of computer based stuff.
Did it really only take that much storage to get you though Uni? I was originally thinking he was going to need a fair amount or storage but i'm not so sure now.
Total storage for 4 years of uni work and most of the lecture slides comes to 53 GB, your mileage may vary but is unlikely to trouble a 1 TB SSD

It was never good value, or certainly wasn't when I bought mine. With no 3900 it was the fastest 65W TDP part available though, so I stumped up the money. I haven't bought or specced one since despite being delighted with mine.

Specially when Fusion 360 is cloud storage based if that is a major part of the workflow.
Re: Entry Level Workstation Build, sub £1000
Well, I've bit the bullet for the OS, I have had the product key emailed to me almost immediately and apparently the physical copy will be with me between 7-21 working days.
Now just got to wait for the brother in law to come round and pay for everything, and then the PC building will commence.
