    Hard drives.....80gb+ for around £50

    Good evening all.

I am looking to get a hard drive for a file server/spare computer. Looking to spend around £50, and nothing less than 80gb's.

What recommendations can you knowledgable people make?

It looks like dabs.com is the cheapest place to get them, so far i have only used maxtor in my builds but am happy to use another manufacturer.

Oh and also, if you have info on the warrenty on the drives that you recommend that would be very useful.

    Thanks very much
    Will.

    EDIT: IDE drives please

    PATA or SATA?

And whats with the link to eBay?

You can get an 80GB drive from as little as £35 form practically anywhere.

To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

Seagates have a five year warranty (the longest to my knowledge), and I have three that have yet to break (touch wood!). I would personally go for at least 160GB right now - the increase in price is relatively small when you consider how much more space you get.

Seagate barracuda is the way to go - quiet and reliable.
Western digital nearly as reliable, slightly faster (esp 8meg cache ones) but noisier.
