Exclamation Watercooling. Do you NEED to have a fan aswell?

I've just ordered myself the Reserator and Zalman Northbridge passive cooler I still have to order the GPU cooler accessory which I'll do later asap.

Obviously being a Shuttle, just incase anyone is not familiar, the case fan and the CPU fan are like combined. So with the waterblock on the CPU, there will be no case fan. Infact the only fan in the system will be the PSU.

I just need to know, do I STILL need a fan? i.e. for the heat generated by the ram, hard drive, and other things? Because if so I'd like to get it at the same time as the GPU cooler, save postage. I have an old pci slot cooler, but a) that will probably be a bit loud, and b) I'd like to have the watercooling tubes going through the pci slot.

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

I'd keep a 'silent' 80mm fan installed just to keep some airflow around your RAM, HDD etc. You could possibly voltage-mod your existing fan.

I used to have an sn45g and not only the cpu and northbridge were hot but also the ram and other compenents so i'd say yeah you still need a fan, but without the ICE system the fan will work much better and should be quieter.

    Thanks for the confirmation englishpremier.

Hopefully the fan will increase the chances of it coping in a closed cupboard. Total silence, here I come.
