How many times are you going to need to switch the bridge anyway. I wouldn't take one of my 512mb ultraws out if i had one.

Wait a bit. Wait for either the 90nm FX55's or the FX-57.
Any idea when this will be comming out???
Ive looked at AMD's processor map it says 1st Half 2005 but that date is fast approaching a no news...

TomsHardware said the digital SLI bridge wasnt worth the effort
Yeah i read that... but i think the mobo fixes some other bugs....

instead of just powering down and pusing a little clip into place
Beats opening up the case, 2 restarts is like 45-60 secs vs opening case (30 secs) then changing card (30 secs) closing case (30 secs).. Plus im to lazy to get down on the floor ... Also i heard the card can be hard to put in and is the weakest part of the SLI mobos (besides the DFI which uses jumpers)

I wouldn't take one of my 512mb ultraws out if i had one.
I think some older games will perform a bit better with 16 PCI-E lanes rather than 8....

Filling up all the RAM slots (if the modules are all matched) on my mobo.. how much will that affect my performance??? Because all the Corsair 1gb sticks have horrible latencies

It will more than negate the quicker latencies becasue you will have to use T2 command rate. 3-4-4-x-T1 will be faster than 2-2-2-x-T2.

Now, if the 4x512 sticks will OC much higher you can make up for/surpass the 1GB sticks in performance, but if you are not going to overclock, the 2x1GB will be faster.

I believe the ASUS board is as good or better than the DFI in many respects. The DFI is a little better for overclocking if you don't do vmods but if you do, or if you don't overclock extremely the ASUS is better IMO.

I would say, instead of a 6800Ultra get a 6800GT you will save a lot of money, and not lose a lot of performance. It also makes it easier to upgrade later on, i.e. by selling on the 6800gt or using another one, seriously, 2 6800ultras that is just a waste of money, that brings no real benefit!

Need to buy top notch sometime... This system should last for about 2 years (I hope... you can never really tell) however 2 years is a long time for me... I mostly buy a new system each year... I think that buying the top of the top (today) is better cause ill save about 2k over the 2 years on PC parts 2 midline pcs ends up being more expensive... Also 2 6800U 512mb give you major bragin rights and almost perfect HL2 performance

    Links for OCZ titanium:
    2x 512 MB $179
    2x 1024 $244

What about in future games? The 2 6800Ultras in my opinion are just frivolous. IMHO i wouldbuy the one 6800GT which will last you a year or more; and then you could buy into t he generation at that time. May i ask what resolution you are hoping to play on, and through what, a CRT of TFT ?

The next gen of cards will imprve on the current ones and the 6800Ultras (which are now relatively old) will quickly become outdated!

However it is your system, if you have the money go for it!

Why not get one 6800GT now and add a second when the prices drop further?

I'd personally wait for the Abit fatality SLI board thats due to be released on Monday

The inq has a bit of a story regarding it. Judging by the single PCI-E fatality board this SLI board is going to be very special indeed

Heres the fatality link - http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...es=1&model=246

As for memory - I personally recommend the XL corsair as this is very low timings @ 400 Mhz ( 2-2-2-5 ) and has the ability to run much faster if needed when overclocking with slightly relaxed timings.

    Hope this helps
