Don't be fooled by wattage claims, do your homework and find how stable the rails are on each PSU. A good 300w PSU will wipe the floor with a bad 600w PSU.

In general i would stick with the following PSU's:

    Enermax
    Antec
    OCZ
    Ultra-Connect
    Tagan

The Enermax for example have 2x12v rails for ultra stability and minimal spiking, currently im running an Enermax CoolerGiant v2 480w and its lovely . But stick with that list and you won't go far wrong quality wise. But read reviews before you plump for one

Knock the Ultra X-Connect off your list. It's not as impressive as it's made out to be... I have a broken one that says so

All due respect though, but it is widely acknowledged as a quality range from a quality company, can't please everybody all the time but you have to take concensus on these things. Not to say the Tagan isn't quality though, as they too make great PSU's.

Kez, well i haven't personally owned one but from what i've read recently they are nice products. Although as you say their longevity is as yet untested. But thats what warranties are for

Quite right, I've used Enermax in the past and have been very pleased. However I've heard chatter about that particular Enermax PSU both positive and negative, so decided against getting it. Would still buy their PSUs, however.

Have used Antec too, and would do so again.

I've used serveral antec, enermax, and PC Power and Cooling PSUs.

Out of these three brands I feel PC power and cooling are the best, and antec the worst (though still fully usable).

Shame the new ones use Delta fans... NOT quiet! I'd have got one if it wasn't for that; they are superb pieces of kit.

Update for anybody still interested - got my Tagan 2Force 530Watt and it is the mutts nutts.

Voltages are spot on (12V strays by less than .1 under load,) and the general quality is amazing. Connectivitiy is fantastic too.

Only caveat is that it's ever so slightly longer than a "normal" ATX PSU... by about 1cm I reckon, so watch out for that if it affects you.

My Tagan 480 is slightly longer than normal too - too big for my case in fact! Nothing a few minutes with a jigsaw didn't fix though. ;D
