If you can buy 2*512MB for £140 it seems reasonable that you can get a third stick for another £70. If you are worried that they won't be a matched set then just spend the £280 for 2GB..............although you haven't really shown that you need all that ram anyway.

Do A64 boards run dual channel with 3 sticks?

I tried 1.5GB, 3 sticks in my p4 board and had quite a performance hit as it wouldn't run dual channel with 3 sticks - either 2 or 4, but I've never used A64, so don't know if its the same with those .....

tbh - i would just put two sticks in now and wait a few months - see if you need double and then install. Was the performance hit really that major skattrd? I remember when i upgraded my athlon to dual-channel it only gave at most 15% gains (3dmark, pifast, prime).

I can't really say what the performance hit was in running single channel compared to dual, but it was very noticeable in my folding (distibuted computed) times, wu times increased by probably 30%, which is quite a significant difference.

Pro has LEDs on top and black heatsinks:

Platinum does not have LEDs, and has silver heatsinks:

For most people 1GB is more than enough, check task manager see what you're using when you're "busy" it'll prob be well under 1GB.

Personally I have 2GB because I run dual proc's and quite alot of memory hungry apps, 4 instances of folding can take upto 1.2GB

Sod it I'm going for 2 gig of that platinum ram and a new mouse while I'm at it !!!

only problem is its now out of stock at Overclockers and they were the cheapest place I'd found for it ! damn

don't worry - they should be getting more soon though. I like the diamondback or the mx518 - don't bother with silly wireless ones

problem with the diamonback (cos i have one) is that it doesn't always start up with the machine if the USB bus doesn't power it up fully during bootup
unplug and replug works fine. dunno about the mx518...........if you are a linux person go with mx518 though.
