    Unhappy SATA Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 250GB Cold Boot Problem

    I recently purchased a SATA Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 250GB drive, model: HDS722525VLSA80.

    Every time I do a cold boot the drive is not detected by my SATA controller card. Doing a ctrl-alt-dlt reset does not help, but turning the computer off and on again allows the drive to be detected.

    To rule out the drive not spinning up in time I disabled fast RAM check to add a significant start-up delay.

    Some specs:
    Motherboard: KR7A-RAID
    CPU: XP1600
    PSU: FSP400-60GN
    SATA Controller: Highpoint Rocket 1520

    Has anyone any thoughts on, or experienced, this problem?

    Other things you can try:

    - Unplug power to other devices to check for a power issue.
    - I once had a drive with a dodgy trace on the PCB, as such it wouldn't work properly until the board had warmed up and made the trace.
    - Plug the drive into one of the other SATA ports.
    - Try the drive in another rig/on another SATA controller.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Cheers for the suggestions Kez, I did not managed to try them all.

    I disconnected a couple of items from the PSU (now reconnected), swapped to the other SATA card port (and back), and moved the card to another PCI slot.

    None of these things seemed to help when I did them, but it has started being detected now. I am not sure what the problem is. The card is still in a different PCI slot. I do not want to try more things unless it stops working again, lol. Fingers crossed.
