I just bid on a motherboard on ebay, there are two hours left and only notised that its SATA, the hardrive I have is ATA. Firstly is SATA that much better than ATA and more importantly can I get my harddrive to work with the SATA board. Can you get a converter?

There is very little performance difference.
It would be very unusual for the mobo to have no PATA channels at all.
& yes there are PATA-SATA adaptors.
