Recommend me a good A64 Motherboard for less than £100

Major upgrade time soon, so making sure i get all me facts straight. Going AMD 64, so need the best motherboard for less than £100. What do you reckon? I need a good ballance of power and furtureproofing.

I'm not sure about dual graphics cards, but probably going for a single card (non-sli) board. Am i making a mistake?

I take it most motherboards still have IDE? I can't afford a new HDD just yet, that will have to wait a few weeks.

I am also going to use my PC2700 memory until i get some decent stuff, will that be ok with most modern boards? I know it will be slow, but i need a working PC and this is going to be a 2 stage upgrade.

Abit AN8 Fatality No-SLI version... just a little under 100 quids..

Or you could settle for an Abit AN8 SLi (non-Fatality) version... 90 odd..

Well... the above only applies when you overclock... Otherwise.. Abit AX8 K8T890 for £65 odd

Why? It doesn't have 3.55Vdimm or 7.1 sound like the non-Fatality does & it's dearer.
Active OTES or Q-OTES is a more subjective choice.

Well ive just got a Asus A8N-E NF4 Ultra, and iam really liking it... It can be had for only 69quid as well.

4 SATA ports, loads of USB ports, plenty of fan headers Onboard LAN, etc all the usual, mosfets sinked, great kayout, one of the most stable board around, decent overlocking options.

It just doesn't have RAID. But if you don't need it, it's great.

The only thing that isn't good is the chipset fan, you'll probably want to replace it, and maybe need a BIOS flash with a Rev E A64, i.e X2, Venice and SD.

NEz: San Diego... Its like comparing a Mercedez Benz with Vauxhall... Even though both are comparable in speed, San Diego will always be a touch faster and a wiff more responsive.... Venice are probably for poorer ppl like me...

Make sure that you get the V2.0 or the AN8 Ultra, AN8 SLi or Fatality SLi if you want 3.55Vdimm.

& the AN8 Ultra is the same board layout as the Fatality AN8, uses the same chipset & BIOS but gains a better sound codec & 3.55V Vdimm & is 25% cheaper ...

Decent overclocker's board but a little quirky. If you set them up correctly they work very well. I prefer the Asus A8N-E. It's the best S939 I've tested so far. I'm testing two ABit S939 boards tomorrow. So far it's the Asus though, especially for the X2 dual-cores.

Heh, Storm persuaded me to get the same board, and iam, impressed so far. Not massive voltage options but on air it should be more than enough.
