Personally, i need something stylish as well as something with good sound, even if it means some sacrifices. For those reasons the current Sony's would be my first choice.
Nothing compares as far as looks go:
Both styles come in 256, 512, and 1GB, the orund one has 70 hours batt life, the long one has 50. The long one also comes in a version with FM tuner.
The downsides are that they require SonicStage for transferring music accross, which quite a lot of people hate. But they will play MP3 and Atrac natively unlike some people say.
The other only bad thing is that neither have a usb plug on the body so they don't just plug straight into a PC, you need the cable with you. If thats something to consider.
I wish other manufacturers were coming out with great looking players, but i havent found any other than these
Ok I will look into this player to mate I was going to get an Ipod shuffle.

Original Ipods are amazing. But shuffle is crap, you cant even choose what song you want do listen to.Originally Posted by wedge22

The Sony E407 is a fantastic player, one of the only flash players I've seen which lets you browse by artist / genre / album etc like the larger HDD players have, rather than just playing though all the songs on the drive.

Definatly get the new Sony over the iPod Shuffle. But I thought the Shuffle was very nice after using one. Does not have to be random, just has no screen.
I think the iPod shuffle's fantastic - I can tranfer any bit rate mp3 to it and it will re-encode it on the fly to 128kbit before saving to the player - so I can have high quality on the PC and lower quality on the mp3 player without any hassle. The quality to just fine when I'm out and about on my bike - do you really need 320kbit for earphones? Other good features - internal lithium battery which charges from the USB port, excellent battery life - took it away on holiday for a weeka dn the battery never left 'green' (high charge) - that's another thing battery life indicator.
Simplicity itself to use.
OK I have just purchased a Creative Muvo 512Mb TX SE from my local Bennetts store for £53 which was a good price I think.

God women can be annoying sometimes. She says that the Muvo I got her today does not look very nice and it does not sound as good as the Aria DB685 it is replacing. I am sure it looks and sounds alot better. What would you get a woman that is this fussy, it needs to be 512Mb, and easy to use and have a display. It looks like the Muvo is going back tomorrow.

Keep the MuVo get a new girlfriend
Lol, nothing wrong with one of those MuVo. I bought one to go to Africa with for two months and it was all good. The headphones that come with it are a bit naff so you might want to try some others. Sennheiser if I were you, I love my pair I picked up at an airport, which I doubt they are anywhere near the top of their range.

Good point about the earphones, the ones that come with mp3 players in most cases can only reproduce meaningless noise to show the player is working... Get a decent pair and it might make a player sound better.
