Another vote for ebay - if you hang around long enough and find something unboxed or a bit atty you can get a bargain. Also, look for mis-spelled auctions, often missed because they don't show up on specific searches.

    Key Points.

    1) Never cut corners with your choice of PSU. Use only those models that come from tried and tested manufacturers.
    2) Don’t be fooled by high power ratings on cheaper PSUs, it is very much the ability of the PSU to supply clean, stable power to your components, not the peek rating, which on cheaper PSUs will be unachievable anyway.
    3) Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever buy a cheap PSU. Ever. Never ever. Not in a month of Sundays. Not even once in a Blue Moon. Never.

I personally would drop the Sony DVD and go with am LG one - cheaper (£2 more for PSU budget and better performer.
Thanks for this. I may well drop the HD capacity but will probably still stick with Seagate as I understand that Maxtor have had a series of failures recently.

All thoughts appreciated.

If its any help the proposed system is Cooler master centurion 530, Gigabyte K8 NF9 MOBO, AMD 64 3000, GeForce 6600, Seagate 200GB, 1GB Crucial value, Sony DVD and NEC 3540 DVDRW with Win XP Home.

The main use will be image editing but I like to use flight sim to relax. Total budget £550. Will buy from Scan given the free P&P offer
Thanks for all the advice - I think I'll plead with higher managemnt for a bit more pocket money this weekend and plump for the Tagan 380W which I think will meet all my requirements

Hiper make good mid-range psu's that are quite cheap.
I got a Hiper Type-R modular 580W for £70 good value for the power it pumps out.

Don't get confused between Q-Tec and QTechnology. As stated Q-TEC is just a step up from a no name vendor whilst QTechnology produce quality products (http://www.quietpc.com/uk/psu.php#qtechnology). I wouldn't be surprised to learn that their lawyers have had a quiet word with Q-Tec.
