ok i have a Gigabyte 7n400 pro2 and a 2500 AMD
I set the FSB in my bios to 200Mhz and my system went crazy.. garbled screen.. didnt wanna startup.. it was all i could do to pray for it to boot up one time so i could go into the bios and change the FSB back to 166.... once my system finally booted up i chaneged everything back... and it appears to be ok. Could this be inferior board issue.. or 200FSB was just to much... what else could play a part in this problem. I didnt bother the voltage or anything else..just the FSB.
what could the problem be... how can i tell if i have a barton.. or are all AMD 2500 chips Bartons ??

Probably just need to drop the multiplier, you should go from 11x166=1.8ghz (default) to 9x166=1.5ghz (to check 9x is set) and then 9x200=1.8ghz. Then go up half a multiplier at a time checking you're stable. Do ensure the RAM is set sync to FSB (eg 1:1, 3:3) and when you can't go any higher stably it's time to either drop back a little for the long term (and severely test it) or try a little more voltage (+0.05v at a time) to see if you can get decently faster IF and only if you are certain temps aren't the problem. Upping the voltage will seriously stress your part more and gives off a lot more heat.
Depends on the mobo. Many use a ratio so equal numbers each side mean both are running at the same speed (synced) so that's 1:1, 3:3 etc. Other mobos tend to refer to the RAM's speed rating so PC2100=266mhz, PC2700=333mhz and PC3200=400mhz. RAM like AMD FSB is DDR so 400mhz is actually 2x200mhz. So for 333FSB set the RAM speed to PC2700 etc. There are other notations but they're the usual ones.

bluephi1914 the Asus does have multiplier adjustment, but many people do stick around 11x anyway so it may not be worth upgrading for that alone. You could mod the CPU but it really isn't remotely worth it.
