Yeah, the best option imho is Epson, particularly the R200 which can be had for £60 from Scan. It prints to cds/dvds and has 6 seperate ink cartridges for each colour and produces brilliant photo prints, if you use some decent photo paper. Haven't had any problems with it or any other previous epson printers.

I get my cartridges from Choice stationerys which works out to just over £2 per cartridge on the smallest pack and down to £1.70 each if you buy 3 complete sets (18 cartidges). Haven't noticed any differences between the epson cartridges to the compatible ones, produces the same results.

one of the main consideration on inkjets is running costs. Those pesky overpriced carts from epson, lexmark, HP and the rest.
Always go for something that you can buy carts without thinking about the cost.
Epson replacement carts are cheap, and the R200 cant be beaten for photo quallity at the price.

That's the infamous £10 Dell printers. Definitely not worth £51!

Speaking of printing photos, I recommend your local pound store for photo paper - at least the ones near me have started selling things like 40-packs of 6x4 photo paper for £1, and 25-packs of A4 photo paper...

sorry about the long delay in replying.

have been away for a few days.

Well didn't end up getting anything!!!! Still trying to sort it out.
began with looking at ink jets, Epson mainly, and thought well this is looking good lets get one! but we then decided that there was no need for colour printing at all (wont be printing photos etc). so began to think mono laser printer, because of the better value cartridges. so came to a bit of a dead end actually. Still printerless!

What does any one think? is it worth getting the laser printer? The ink jet cartridges are just so expensive.

    Go mono laser:

It may come into PCW so you wouldn't have to pay P&P.

I've ordered the Samsung SCX-4100 (Printer, copier, scanner) from Redstore.com for a relative. Oclocker posted the details in the Samsung printer thread in the bargain section. Total cost £71 (inc delivery).

My brother picked up the above machine from PC World some months ago for £100 and is happy with it. He bought some toner off ebay on the cheap.
