When you're sitting in an upright position put your arm fully out, fingers pointing straight forward your fingertips should be touching the monitor
Tilt etc - where you like it i guess
Not so that the screen is facing a window?
Glare will vary depending on you're room's lighting conditions. There is a *lot* you can do with a CRT's image in terms of contrast adjustments, blackpoint adjustment, gamma adjustment etc. Google is your friend, i spent a good 4 hours on my 21" and its much better (with much room for improvement remaining).
That was not a lie 2.5 gamma corrected now and matched to my LCD (almost... :| )
I heard somewhere that you shouldn't look straight at it, if your sat with your keyboard in front of you then the screen should be slightly off to ei9ther the left or right. I heard that a long time ago though, so whether it's right or relevant anymore I don't know.
Pretty sure that not right GFiSH. My mum has neck problems and she thinks thats mainly to do with her monitor being off center at her job (Obviously not anymore) but it suggests thats not a good idea
Ergonomically, you want the centre of the display & the 'letter pad' (for want of a better term) aligned, thus with a number pad the keyboard would be offset very slightly to the right.
As for glare reduction, you ideally want to position the display without any non-defused light sources more than 30 deg in front of the display plane (like this is viable, cause you shouldn't have strong lights in your vision as well & these two areas over lap almost entirely!). Reality says that just try and keep bright light from being directly behind you & play about a bit.
Maybe i can add here. Is it OK to use the pc everynight in a dark room without lights on?
I much prefer it like that BUT if its damaging my eyes in the longrun then i'll put a light on
In total darkness is bad, but with a reasonable amount of ambient light (ie 2x 25w spot bulbs on a reflective diffuser the other side of a 3m room) it's fine
I was talking total darkness. Got some 2 angled light above the pc which give a nice dim light
