My pc was running very hot, and noisy when it was at load with my coolermaster hyper48, i could run it on a fan controller, but would hit over 70C at 4ghz. I wasnt too fussed running it quiet a bit slower, but when i got a new video card, the 7800GT - this ran very noisy, the fan speed on the card didnt seem to go down much when it was idle, probably because of the ambient temperature of my case, which sat around 45C.
Today i picked up from kustom pc's, one of the new zalman reserator one - the black one with cpu and gpu cooling.
It was a doddle to set up, had it up and running in about half an hour. After i released a kink, ive let it run an hour for temps to settle.
At 4ghz, im full load (ran prime and 3dmark) and hitting 61C now, gpu idle is 48, which is about the same as the stock cooler, not got rivatuner installed so im not sure what it goes up to, but it clocks quite nicely - 489 1190 on the autodetect - so im hitting just over 17500 3dmarks, ill push it a bit more, see if i can get 500/1200 and 4.2ghz.
To be honest i was hoping just to lose the noise from the pc, any added overclock was going to be a bonus, so im delighted with the results, idle on the cpu is 49C, so its down 5 or 6 degrees from the low speed on my old coolermaster fan too.
I was dubious that it would cool a 4ghz p4 and a 7800 - but im glad to be proved wrong, and its really eerie turning it on, thinking, whens the noise going to start, i only get a very light chatter from my 2 samsung spinpoints, which are about as quiet as hard drives get anyway, i also have 2 120mm fans, but they spin at 1000rpm, and are inaudible.
2 thumbs up for the reserator
(i appreciate people might not be impressed with the temperatures, but intel does get very toasty, and adding a top spec graphics card in there is a nice bonus).
