    MB For X2 3800+

Hi, I want to find a s939 board for the x2 3800+, I do want to overclock to about the 2.7-2.8 GHz level if possible.

My question is I can get a MSI K8N Diamond MB for about £85. The board is feature packed but would it overclock to the levels I want to reach. Using the Gogar's Athlon 64 OC Optimizer, my best overclock options are to 300 fsb, 9 multiplier, using a 17:24 mem divider which will give me 208 mem clock. Would this Msi board be able to run this config?.

Has anyone got this board and know it can overclock to the levels i want, and i also see not alot of people have not got msi boards. Is there something wrong with them as most people prefer going with asus.

DFI is regarded as the best general overclocking board, due to the sheer number of options in the BIOS. I have a Lanparty nf4 SLI-D and am very happy. ASUS also would get recommended, loads of people here use them very happily. Jetway, a relative unknown, has just brought out a very good board too if the reviews are accurate. It has three 16x pcie slots (1 at x16, 2 at x8 if the x16 isn't used) and you don't have to change BIOS settings (ASUS) or mobo jumpers (DFI) to switch.

I'd have to agree on the DFI recommendation. Not to mention my LanParty is an extremely colourful board indeed. Came with flourescent cable wrap too!

javalord; possibly, possibly not. My venice 3000+ does 2.55 with a low multiplier and its quite a "slow" one!

The MSI has many features but look at ones with user modded BIOS, etc, for overclockign support. Also worth checking out what the overclockerheads use from their sigs. DFI naturally, ABIT also i believe.

Seriously think about your cooling as you have an x2 which is already a fair few watts higher then a normal venice.

I've seen some of the X2's hitting great OC's on those 3800+'s.

DFI's mostly the way to go with OC'ing - although the Sapphire boards look good and the Jetway (don't laugh) looks pretty great

    Yep lovin that board!!!

    I've had a...
DFI Lanparty ultra-D (had probs with my corsair ram hopefully latest bios has fixed it)
Asus A8n-e (bios had issues when attempting to overclock, got it to run at 275 (my 3000+ @2.5) Problem was the chipset fan which either failed after a month or so or started to make grindin noises!

The best is the abit an8-ultra imo, its also silent *heatpipe*

Look also at the new Saphire RS480 and Jetway with nforce 4SLi, because they beat the DFI lanparty in Overclock.

The Saphire RS480 board is so expensive £150 i've seen it quoted for. Dont know where to get the jetaway board from, so if anyone knows please let me know. I am also planning to buy some corsair value ram 2x1gb modules. Are there any issues with this memory and the DFI NF4 Ultra-D board
