Wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to make a back of a computer/monitor etc all tidy?
Taking about usb wires, mouse, power, monitor wires all the usual suspects.
Is there some kind of professional method I am missing?

Well profesional workstation desks have cable management systems built into the back of the desk and the legs (like mine), it means you wire everything up, then you just close up the lid of the desk and its all hidden
G4 PowerMac - Tiger 10.4 - 512MB RAM
MacBook - 2Ghz - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD
Rotel RC970BX | DBX DriveRack |2x Rotel RB850
B&W DM640i | Velodyne 1512
sounds cool
i just use velcro cable ties
I use cheap cable ties. I find the key is to tie the cables together as much as possible when they're going in the same direction to minimise clutter. Also the longer cables need bunching up a bit and tying in a small bundle at some point so you don't have an excessive amount of cabling all over the place.
Try colour co-ordinating as many of the wires as you can - if it's got a removable cable, replace it! Looks much tidier if everything matches.
I like the silver/transparent cable look for my system, even though you can't see most of it, it's still nice to know it's there! Can't do much about integrated cables without pulling things apart though.
ikea sell cable cover which u can wrap over yr cables, they do black white and silver i think.
maplins also sell a range of cable ties and self adhesive ties so u can attach then to tables and legs
The other thing I've done is put a strip of sticky-back velcro hidden along one edge of the desk, then used velcro ties to collect the cables together. Makes it a lot easier to route the cables around.
