    Cheap system for vid capture

    Hey

I'm after a cheap second system for video capture and video capture alone.

I'm after a fairly decent processor, at least 160Gb HDD and at least 512mb RAM.

I'm not bothered as to whether it's AMD or Intel.

I want a small case but I don't want to spend a lot. I'm going to use a KVM switch to use my existing monitor, keyboard and mouse. I don't need an OEM windows - I've still got a spare licence for one here.

I've got the hardware I need for the actual vid capture and I'm using it on this machine, but when I'm doing it I can't do anything else - hence the second system.

Paying for it monthly would be great, or even better a buy now pay in 6 month affair.

I'm looking at something no more than £350.

Thanks for any help or pointers!

    Tim

I was looking at that Digidice - shame it's sold out

What's this DVDRW deck from Makro all about then?

EDIT: You mean a stand alone thing like a VCR? Got one, don't want another one.

Want to do it all through the PC

The words 'video capture' and 'cheap' don't really go together. Do you have any idea how intensive video capture / encoding / etc is?

You don't say what it is you're capturing but, for example, Mini DV to PC can take up a crap load of space (I think someone said 50Gb per 10minutes of film last time this subject was brought up here).

    Hey

Yeah, I know all about it. I'm using it on this system at the moment, but when I'm capturing I can't do anything else with my computer as it results in skipped frames, juttery audio, etc.

That's why I want another little system to do it while I'm using my main system. When I'm not doing anything else on my system it captures the video fine, not a problem. I just want a shed load of hard drive space to keep what I capture, a processor fast enough to do it and enough ram to make it all go smoothly.

Not going to get that 'cheap' though are you?

The system above could manage that ok. I'm only capturing at 352*288
