I've heard bad things about the icemats and the new breed of Laser mice (G5 and copperhead), I'd recommend a func1030, those things are great!!

Yeah, I'm planning on making an order with scan next week, however they don't do the colour of Icemat 2 I wanted. They do black, white and blue. I don't really want anymore black (as keyboard, mouse one of the two cases and bits of the other are all black). I wanted the Silver one really and they don't do it, which is a right pain.Originally Posted by BlueMagician
Yeah I've heard many (since placing this thread on hexus and another forum) people say the same has happened to them. But then again it is a cheap pad.Originally Posted by Apex

I'm thinking of getting the original icemat from scan, the measurements are about the same size as the rappadz gs which is good enough for me... But like Ravennight said i've also heard that laser mice and icemats dont go v.well. I really liked my ratzpad, i can totally notice the difference when using the side of it compared to the middle!
Had a Ratpadz GS for about 18 months now and it is worn in the middle. (Using MX1000). I still love the feel when using the sides but will probably go for a func 1030. A friend has one and I like the thinness of it.
I actually have the original IceMat - iirc, it's smaller than the v2 - which I got cos bigger wouldn't fit on the ledge of my desk..
I use it with a 518 rodent, and have no probs with tracking or whatever - what is this problem with laser mice - is it newer ones, or what?
S.
What do you mean the problem with the laser mice? All Ratpadz seem to wear down in a short space of time, the type of mouse on it doesn't effect that. It just seems a lot of people are using Mx1000's, I think that's just because people like them.Originally Posted by BlueMagician
You might try a teflon baking tray from woolworths(in the UK). Morisons also have them, but only in grey, black looks better.
What you get is a flat black teflon backing tray for about £3. It's very big, very smooth, and if you stick some blu-tak under it you might find it fullfills you're needs. I use it in conjuction with an mx510 and some celetape on the mouses feet, which gives what feels like practically frictionless movement.
It may sound stupid, but for £3 it's not the end of the world if it goes wrong, give it a go!
Yeah, I use my PC very heavily, so under the place where I mostly use the mouse on the teflon coating has partially worn away. But you can rotate it once(theres a lip that can either be on your far side or facing towards your monitor) or just get a new one, my replacements in the cupboard, and when I've got some spare change I plan on buying 5 or 6 of them. Just in case they stop selling them, that'll keep me in mousemat for another good few years.
It's conclusive, the Ratpadz GS is not a durable mouse mat.
I bought mine last year and had it for around 6 months before the texture wears down to nothing, leaving a sticky surface that causes friction and is a sorry mat to use when gaming when it gets to that stage. I would take pictures but my crap camera needs AA batteries, and I havent got any.
Right now I'm 6 months in to having a Func 1030, claiming to be a 'Competition Mousing Surface'. It has been said that it has two sides, and it does, the rough side and the smooth. I use a Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical, I've got an MX1000 and an MX518 but they just do not compare to this Old Skool mouse, I had to get it off eBay because back in 2002 or 2003 I had it and it rocked, so i got it again.
The rough side gives less friction than the smooth side, which is surprising. The rough side also gives better accuracy I find, and it's easier to whip your mouse about. The surface area is plentyful of space and you shouldnt find yourself running out of mouse mat.
I'm more than happy with the Func 1030 and I would recommend it to anybody, and as Ive said I've had it for 6 months and not a single sign of wear, even the logo is 100% in tact, unlike the Ratpadz GS silver logo which looks like its had the Adobe Photoshop Noise filter applied to it 100 times over (Yes, im a geek ).
So yeah, Ratpadz messed up big time here, good for the first 5 to 8 months depending on usage, then it's redundant for gaming and pretty much everything else, and you need to get a new mousemat.
Hi guys,
makign a quick glance at this thread, I noticed no1 mentioned this pad:
func pad f-series f10.s@17" x 11
First thing you'll notice is that it is BIGGER than the ratpad gs.
Next thing you'll notice is that even though the textures between the GS and the f10.s is different, which will probably lead to preferential decision between the two, once U get accustomed to the f10.s, you will know that it is SMOOTHER than the GS. Another thing that happened to me in particular is,
when I got my mx518 b4 i got the f10.s, my ratpads GS actually WORE the mouse's feet considerably. Switching to the f10.s, this occurence stopped=D
Never seen my feet wore in a few days lol.
"F-Series Competition Mousing sUrfaces are available in either of the two surface textures that were popularized by the award-winning, double-sided sUrface1030." -http://func.net/fseries.html
f10.s is the smooth version. f30.r is the rough version. Since i'm a quake 2 player, which requires a sh1t load of moving ur mouse, I got the f10.s. I gotta say: I LOVE IT
